The last wildland firefighter crew working in the Mount Thielsen wilderness successfully extinguished the Hound Dog Fire and hiked out on Sunday morning.
Mark Turney of the Forest Service said an additional detection flight Sunday afternoon did not find any new fires or smokes along the path of the recent lightning event. He said the aircraft also flew its normal detection grid over the remainder of the forest with no new fires or smokes reported.
Turney said the Forest Service is preparing for potential lightning events later this week.

An upper level trough will sweep across the region Wednesday night and Thursday, bringing stronger winds with cooler temperatures lasting into the weekend.
Fire danger remains high with Public Use Restriction 1 remaining in effect.
